Biography

Sixte Kakinda holds a doctorate in Global Art Practice from the Tokyo University of the Arts, where his work Intimate Moments/Monologue won the top prize. A self-taught comics writer and visual artist, Sixte is interested in the lines (main component of drawing) present in so-called primitive African art and its features (connection, separation, etc.) as thread telling the history of Congo and as a process of extending and decolonizing drawing through the new possibilities carried by these lines.

Sixte has held a solo exhibit in Hiroshima and joined several group exhibits in Hiroshima, Tokyo, Seoul, Leipzig, Antwerp and Lubumbashi. He has also collaborated with artists like Sinzo Aanza, Lindiwe Matshikiza and Hiraku Suzuki. 
Sixte works between Goma and Lubumbashi (Congo).
