A Is Not A is a deconstruction of the letter "a" written in upper case. This deconstruction led to a simplification of the letter A into three lines. By changing the arrangement of each line according to the angle, orientation and place occupied in the space, new letters different from the letter A gradually begin to form.
Over time, the original idea of deconstructing this letter evolved into a construction of new signs, sometimes resembling to Japanese kanji, Chinese letters, Arabic numerals, animal, or even human forms. Several shapes appear as the lines of the letter A are moved.
A Is Not A is also a process of decolonisation of knowledge by the fact that the letter "a" is the first letter learned at school and is therefore, in a certain sense, the initial point of knowledge, of writing, of science. Deconstructing this letter, therefore, means entering into a process of dialogue with this element of knowledge from the West, although some specialists prove its Egyptian origin. To deconstruct this letter is also to embark on a journey of transformation undergone by this letter (and by all the others) to become a universal tool of communication. Deconstructing this letter is ultimately about appropriating its history and telling its own story with its own letters, its own words. It is a process of liberation.
